Sunprints

I remember feeling dizzy because of crouching and then standing, up and down, out in the sun waiting for minutes to pass by.

Two Double Exposures

Made using color film, shot in an office building and a forest. Sometimes double exposures turn out amazing, sometimes bland, but I've found that not knowing how they will turn out is where the magic enters in.

Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell

In the domain of the young there dwells many an Undead soul. They rush about so, their inner putrefaction is concealed for a few decades, that is all.” -Timothy Cavendish

Sketch from 2007

This is a sketch of Elliott Smith, one of my favorite songwriters. During the time when I drew this I was going through the hardest time in my life; my father had just passed away after a long, debilitating illness. I listened to a lot of Elliott's music during those few years, and looking back at that time I can see my drawings as reflections of how I was feeling in a focused, contained form.

I am glad I have this sketch as a reminder that making things can really help one move through sadness or anxiety. Creativity, whether through art, music, writing, dance, or constructive conversation, is a conduit for healing. Making things doesn't make the sadness go away (immediately), but it can help one's feelings evolve into something meaningful.

Polaroid

I put a magnifying glass in front of the lens, but there was too much light and thus, the blur. Ever since I was a kid I’ve been fascinated with tiny, secret worlds.  It’s as if such a world is secret because it goes unnoticed and when it’s noticed you realize it’s magical, and then you want to find all the other hidden places. Imagine a life underground, or under the wooden fence, between the leaves. (Don’t cut it down). Something different than big things with size and glory, buildings to the sky, people stomping and wheeling around in the large bustling world.

Afternoon with the diana mini

Letting the kids waste film with a toy camera, the super blurry one is the photo I darkened just to see what it was, because Taj pressed the clicker a buncha times like he was expecting the photo to pop out or show up on a screen. Pretty awesome results. Leela is improving and she almost four.
